2006-01 Q2: from non-Chinese speaking family
-------- Question 2: Director of Bilingual Classes ----------------------------
*Subject:* Two questions regarding your language
program
Good afternoon,
I had two questions regarding the Lexington Chinese School. ……
…………My daughter’s birthday is September xx 2002. We
would like to enroll her in your Kindergarten 1 program beginning in the Fall of 2006. I was wondering if you have other students enrolled in your programs who have been adopted from China by Caucasian parents? My second question concerns preparation. Is there anything my wife and I can do to prepare my daughter for the Kindergarten
1 program? ………................................................... My wife
and I would like to learn Chinese along with her so we can reinforce her learning in your program through her daily life at home. Any texts and/or other forms of instructional preparation tools you could recommend would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide.
Sincerely,
XXXX
----------- Answer 2 ----------------------------------
Mr. XXXX,
Thank you for inquiring about our school. I'm Ting Ting Yeh, the
Director of Bilingual Classes.
The Lexington Chinese School has two departments for the Chinese
language program. One is regular classes and the other is bilingual.
The bilingual classes are designed for the families that do not have a
Chinese language environment at home. The teachers will run the classes
in English in this department.
Your situation is not uncommon in the bilingual department. We have
numerous kids like XXXX. We welcome parents to sit in class with their
children. In this way, we believe that parents will help review the
material for the kids at home. We also offer adult classes for the
parents who like to have more intensive learning of Chinese.
Meanwhile, if you like, you can let XXXX watch some Chinese learning
tapes like "Follow Jade" at home in her spare time. I think the most
important part is to keep XXXX interested in learning Chinese.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly. I
will do my best to assist you.
We have a Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 29 at school. If you and
your family are interested in joining us, please let me know.
Hope to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Ting Ting Yeh
